Power Outage

No, we didn't lose power from the thunderstorms rumbling through the area last week. Rather a power shut down was planned in order to give workers the opportunity to install upgraded electrical service to Redeemer. This work is now complete and the new electrical capability is fully in place.

You wouldn't know it, but the air conditioning in the entire building is now running on the new electrical service. This includes existing space, like the sanctuary and renovated space like the gymnasium and the Westmaple wing.

The benefit to Redeemer is immediate. The temporary air conditioning unit that we were renting has now been returned. And earlier than expected. This will save the project several thousand dollars. And the new air conditioning units are much more efficient than the older units. More on our "green" savings in a future post.

AC Returns to Redeemer

Who would have imagined two weeks of heat and humidity in the mid 80's before Memorial Day in Michigan? Well, actually, we could have predicted that back in January when we first learned that the air conditioning in the sanctuary was going to be temporarily disabled starting in May and for much of the summer.

But there is cause for rejoicing, as the air conditioning is back at Redeemer -- specifically in the main sanctuary. The photos below show the temporary air conditioning unit just outside the music wing. This will take the place of our regular unit until such time as the regular air conditioning is restored. In the photos below you can see the large white air handling conduits that run from the portable unit just outside the music wing, through the music wing windows and ultimately to the sanctuary. Design Update: Site Improvements

In order to support the first phase of Sacred Space, as well as accommodate the future growth outlined in our master facility plan, several improvements are being made to the Redeemer site. Highlights include:

• West parking lot expansion close to sanctuary and main entrance


• Fire protection in all new areas and existing hallways


• Water upgrade to accommodate new fire suppression sprinklers


• Electrical upgrade to accommodate current and future growth


• Phone and wireless upgrade in all new areas


• Fire exit from children’s lower level classrooms to outside


• Air conditioning in the gymnasium
